RED ROCKS TOUR and Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad Visit Yaroslavl

The RED ROCKS TOUR concert held in Yaroslavl on 25 August featured ТОКiO, Masha i Medvedi and Therr Maitz. Eighteen cities - from Rostov-on-Don to Irkutsk - have already become participants of the RED ROCKS Music Marathon, with Sberbank as the General Partner. In every city, all those who willing are taking part in creating an Olympic Fans’ Anthem.

DJ Subwave and DJ Modular opened the concert with their cheerful electropop set, followed by THERR MAITZ. The track list included popular hits, such as Feel Free, Seconds of Love and Feeling Good that are the signature songs the band is famous for on the Internet and in Moscow night clubs. THERR MAITZ band is from Khabarovsk and has long become popular in Russia, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Japan. The musicians perform a blend of trip hop and electronic dance music; they participate in various famous electronic music festivals and share the stage with Benni Benassi, Kyoto Jazz Massive and Bent.

THERR MAITZ made their debut on the RED ROCKS TOUR a month ago, in the concert held in Tomsk. For Masha i Medvedi, who celebrated their fifteenth anniversary this year, it was the fifth performance on the RED ROCKS TOUR. The enthusiasm of spectators in different cities, singing, together with the lead singer, Lyubochka, Bez Tebya (Without You), Reykjavik and other hits performed by Masha Makarova and Co, speaks to the fact that the band is popular with many people.

TOKiO was the headliner of the concert that gathered about 5,000 people on Sovetskaya Square. Following their debut performance on Maxidrom 2003, TOKiO was called a breakthrough of the year by the critics, and in 2006 the band was awarded as the Best Rock Project by MTV RMA. The band has already released 3 studio albums and several soundtracks to Russian blockbusters such as Devyataya Rota (The 9th Company), Zhara (Heat) and Obitaemy Ostrov (The Inhabited Island). At the moment, the band is recording two albums simultaneously - in Russian and in English - with their release scheduled for the end of this year. Those who visited the concert in Yaroslavl heard not only their favorite songs, such as Kogda Ty Plachesh (When You Cry), Ledokol (Ice Breaker), My Budem Vmeste (We Will Be Together), but also the band’s new track Ritm (Rythm).

During the concert in Yaroslavl, all those willing could feel themselves part of the creative and Olympic movement, while participating in the recording of a collective piece of music. An unusual device in the form of a megaphone able to record sounds was installed on the site. In the intervals between the performances, those who wished lined up to “hand in” their own sounds for the RED ROCKS’ Music of the Future project. All the collected samples, whether the noise of wind, a chorus of fans, a guitar chord or a child’s voice, will be used in the Sochi Olympic Fans’ Anthem. The sounds for the Music of the Future project can be added via the Internet: the Redrocks.ru website enables adding a sample to the RED ROCKS online library.

Yaroslavl is the “bronze” city on the homestretch of the RED ROCKS TOUR 2012 project: two cities - Ryazan and Kaliningrad - are left to finish this year’s season.
