On June 1 around 15 000 people gathered on the Lenin Square in Chita to take part in the Olympic movement and the RED ROCKS festival, an event held in the framework of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad supported by Sberbank.
The city dwellers greeted the bands with long rounds of applauses, while the hit songs could be heard from a significant distance from the Lenin Square thanks to the crowd singing along with the performers.
The evening openers were a young Moscow band INDIES; everyone loved their love songs, especially appreciated by the female part of the audience. The bandleader Grigorii Melnikov enjoyed communicating with the fans throughout their set, and for the final song he invited ten happy crowd members to join him on stage and sing along.
Warmed up by the young indie-rockers, the crowd was waiting for their idol, a true rock-hero, Naik Borzov, who decided not to limit his set in Chita to only his famous hits like Loshadka or Verkhom na zvezde’ but also presented several songs from his new album soon to come out. Besides, Naik was so touched by the warm reception that he decided to sing some never-heard-before songs especially for the Chita audience.
When Naik and his band finished their set, the team of RED ROCKS organizers stepped up on stage to present the Sochi 2014 Fans’ Anthem. This is a unique tune, since it was created in collaboration with the guests of the last years’ festival - music fans, sports fans and world-renowned musicians. The anthem was produced and recorded by the TOKIO band and their frontman Yaroslav Maly. In order for the anthem to sound even more massive and to let everyone feel as a part of the Olympic history, this year the RED ROCKS team continued to collect voices across the country by recording the chorus together with the audience at every concert.
But the headliners of the festival in Chita were the Nochniye Snayperi. The lead singer of the band Diana Arbenina confessed that she loved the city of Chita and promised the crowd to “return before going away”. The audience was touched and ready to listen to their idol forever. The band showed everyone what true rock’n’roll is when they performed Ty darila mne rozy together with their special guest, actor Dmitry Pevtsov. That performance was the high point of the festival in Chita, and the audience was reluctant to leave the Lenin Square long after.
